AI-Enhanced Smart Grids

Smart grids have become nearly ubiquitous across the modern world, however they are not that “smart”. We aim to understand how to infuse modern artificial intelligence techniques to smart grids to make them more resilient to natural hazards and cyberattacks. Additionally, we seek to stress-test existing AI techniques to evaluate their robustness to serve energy providers. This will be possible through engaging directly with prominent smart grid utilities.

Renewable Energy Cybersecurity

Future energy infrastructure, such as renewable energy systems, are entirely reliant on embedded control systems. Given the computing constraints of control systems, we need fundamentally new mechanisms to evaluate their risk and manage their security. We aim to identify real-time risk identification mechanisms for renewable energy infrastructure and establish non-invasive technology to manage their security.
