My work centers on quantifying potential effects of natural hazards on society, risk-management policy analysis\/design, risk-based budgeting, System Dynamics, and Asset Management Systems, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>catastrophe modeling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>natural disaster risk management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>System Dynamics and strategic studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hazard modeling (hurricane, seismic, and floods)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>assessment of climate change impacts on socio-technical systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>engineering models of infrastructure vulnerability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>risk-based asset management systems (RBAMS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>analysis and design of public policies in risk mitigation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I teach graduate courses in <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/systems.jhu.edu\/gonzalo\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">Natural Disaster Risk Modeling<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/systems.jhu.edu\/gonzalo\/system-dynamics\/\" target=\"_blank\">System Dynamics<\/a>, and International Project Management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m also <a href=\"https:\/\/systems.jhu.edu\/gonzalo\/applied-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">senior consultant at the World Bank<\/a>, since 2013 where I lead projects in <a href=\"https:\/\/documents1.worldbank.org\/curated\/en\/471581493284709842\/pdf\/114626-WP-PUBLIC-drp-saintlucia.pdf\">catastrophe modeling<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/theanguillian.com\/2022\/07\/government-of-anguilla-launches-new-program-to-manage-disaster-risk-by-improving-monitoring-of-government-buildings\/\">asset management systems<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.financialprotectionforum.org\/news\/event-recap-risk-based-budgeting-for-natural-disasters-workshop-philippines\">risk-based budgeting<\/a>, and more. I also participated in the development of the vulnerability module of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fphlm.cs.fiu.edu\/people.html\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/fphlm.cs.fiu.edu\/people.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I completed a B.C.E. in structural engineering (Ingeniero Civil &#8211; Univ. Tecnologica Nacional, Cordoba, Argentina), M.Sc. in earthquake engineering (Univ.
